Local schools follow the Stratford Road Spice Trail

In November and December 2014 My Route worked with three schools around Stratford Road to explore some of the history of the spices that are now commonly available in the area.  The participating schools were:

  • Ladypool Primary School
  • St Johns Primary School
  • St Ambrose Catholic Primary School

Artists Sally Harper-Kenn and Anna Horton engaged pupils in arts and craft activities which culminated in the production of a glass-framed My Route spice trail.

Keystage 2 pupils at each school had an opportunity to discuss and identify the origins of specific herbs and spices, as well as uncovering how they were used by particular communities. Sensory boxes gave them a chance to smell, touch and taste some of the produce available locally and parents also got in on the act by taking part in workshops to share their own stories and authentic recipes which will be included within the learning pack as a legacy to the project.
